Global Aviation Tire Panorama
On the evening of January 5, 2025, a passenger plane had a tire burst during takeoff at Melbourne Airport, Australia. Fortunately, no one was injured in the accident.
Tire bursts occur not only on highways, but also on airport runways. It is reported that the accident was caused by two tires bursting when the plane was taxiing at a speed of 300 kilometers per hour before takeoff. The captain braked in time to prevent a bigger accident.
The cause of the aircraft tire burst has not been announced to the public. However, the accident also reminds the public and major airlines again that tire safety is related to navigation safety.
01 There are only ten tire suppliers in the world, and China has a dark horse
Hundreds of tons of aircraft take off and land on tires, which means that aircraft tires must have a strong load-bearing capacity-one tire shares tens of tons of load.
At the same time, because the tires are often taxiing at an ultra-high speed of 300 kilometers per hour before takeoff and landing, this also means that the tires are under extremely high grip and handling tests. This is why only a few tire companies in the world can receive orders from aircraft factories.
At present, there are only 10 major aircraft tire suppliers recognized by the industry. In addition to the traditional strong companies such as Michelin, Bridgestone, Goodyear and Dunlop aircraft tires used by Airbus and Boeing, Senqilin will also be included in the list of aircraft tire suppliers in 2024.
Compared with the aircraft tire manufacturing started by the giants in the 1950s, Senqilin's growth rate in the field of aviation tires is not slow. Senqilin officially started the development of aviation tire projects in 2010.
However, in 2014, Senqilin had obtained the Aviation Tire Technical Standards Project Approval (CTSOA Certificate) issued by the Civil Aviation Administration of China, proving its professional qualifications in aviation tire design and production. Since then, Senqilin has been on a roll.
In 2019, Senqilin Tire successfully developed aviation tires for COMAC ARJ21-700. In 2021, Senqilin stated in its financial report that it has obtained the qualification to support the Xiaopeng Flying Car tire project due to its strength in aviation tire research and development and manufacturing.
In 2022, Sentury stated on the interactive platform that it had signed a relevant cooperative research and development agreement with COMAC to carry out cooperation on domestic large aircraft aviation tires. It has entered the list of suppliers for COMAC C909 and C919 and is the official supplier of COMAC ARJ21-700 aviation tires.
At present, Sentury has started small-scale supply of aviation tires. As the aviation industry gradually recovers in 2023, Sentury is facing more and more opportunities. Dunlop Aircraft Tire Manufacturing Plant has turned losses into profits through the recovery of the aviation industry in the past year.
02 Aircraft tire market sales soared more than 2 times
According to industry organizations, global aircraft tire demand will continue to rise-aircraft tire sales in 2032 will increase by 32% year-on-year from 2024 to approximately US$3.353 billion (approximately RMB 24.6 billion), and the aircraft tire market size in 2024 will be approximately RMB 18.5 billion.
It is also worth noting that due to a series of aircraft accidents in 2024 and 2025, it is expected that many airlines will collectively inspect and even replace tires this year in order to strengthen safety management. For aircraft tire manufacturers, tire sales in 2025 may be even hotter than predicted.
Previously, some tire companies have stated that the price of aircraft tires is much higher than that of car tires, which also means that tire companies that have a layout in the aviation tire market may see a surge in sales in the next 1 to 2 years.
